Spoiled in L.A. October 2009

Much is to be anticipated from a designer who received her first Louis Vuitton handbag at age three and was henceforth wholeheartedly committed to the world of fashion. With Haute Betts, her year-old jewelry line, California girl Heather Betts more than lives up to these lofty expectations she exceeds them with a collection of distinctive, handcrafted accessories seemingly tailor-made for the LA girl.

Betts, who credits Lucky Star-era Madonna amongst her sources of inspiration, has endowed her line with an aesthetic that can best be described as feminine rocker. Each design is playfully named after a Hollywood personality, a facet of the collection that enhances the flirty, collectible vibe of the line as a whole.

Meant to be worn stacked, the stretch bracelets for which the line’s become known appear simple from a distance but are actually heavily detailed and nuanced when examined closely. The Ashlee, a serpentine collection of green freshwater pearl potato beads and vintage Czech glass clear skulls, is subtle, sexy, and can be stacked with any piece in the line. It’s sister – or Hollywood friend – design, the Nicole, is moodier, with gold freshwater pearl beads to create louder accents in a stack. Other favorites from the collection include: the Immortal, composed of Czech glass ivory skulls and Tiger’s Eye beads for an ancient, sacred feel the Skinny and the Glossy, made with hematite beads, black crystal beads, and Czech glass black skull beads for an edgy yet feminine look the Rocker, for which the name says it all and, the popular Rihanna, a rare standalone piece in the collection which sings for attention from any wrist – even those less famous than Rihanna’s.

Though anyone who sees these bracelets will want to snatch them up for themselves immediately, they’re also great for gifts or party favors, as friends can trade amongst themselves and add to each other’s collections. As Betts says, “No outfit is complete without the right accessories,” and with the creation of Haute Betts she’s assured fashion-savvy LA ladies that they’ll never have to leave the house incomplete again.

And for the month of October you can be chic and charitable. Haute Betts has created the Liberation bracelet in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month and will be donating 35% of the proceeds from the sale of this item to The Young Survival Coalition. The Liberation bracelet has graduating shades of pink circular links connecting and is topped off with a pink and gold ribbon to show support for the cause. Wear one or wear four stacked to give the illusion of bangles. The Haute Betts Liberation bracelet is the perfect way to show support for fellow women and breast cancer…and make a philanthropic fashion statement at the same time.
